A Swedish trademark can be kept in force indefinitely through ten-year renewals. PRV opens the renewal window six months before expiry. A further six months remains after expiry, but every renewed class then attracts an additional SEK 200. NordicIP manages the timing, scope and register details so the renewed right reflects the portfolio the owner actually wants.
The answer in numbers
| Scope | E-service renewal | E-service renewal after expiry |
|---|---|---|
| 1 class | SEK 2,700 | SEK 2,900 |
| 2 classes | SEK 3,700 | SEK 4,100 |
| 3 classes | SEK 4,700 | SEK 5,300 |
| 4 classes | SEK 5,700 | SEK 6,500 |
These are official PRV amounts. The NordicIP quote adds our agreed service charge and identifies the registration, classes and deadline in one instruction.
Renewal is the moment to clean the record
Ten years is long enough for a brand owner to change address, legal name, group structure or commercial direction. Before filing, NordicIP compares the current PRV record with the instructing entity and asks focused questions where something has moved.
A Swedish renewal can be paired with relevant register changes. The objective is a record that is both renewed and usable: the correct owner is visible, correspondence reaches the appointed representative and the class scope supports the business. Where an assignment needs evidence, we identify it early rather than allowing the issue to surface after payment.
A practical view of the six-month late period
The post-expiry window protects owners against an immediately lost right, but it has three disadvantages. The office fee rises, the absolute deadline is closer, and any uncertainty about the owner or classes becomes more urgent. For those reasons, NordicIP sets an internal response date before expiry and recommends completing the instruction in the ordinary window.
If the regular deadline has passed, the next step is still decisive: check the official status and calculate the last permissible day. Send the registration number at once. We will confirm whether late renewal remains available and provide the filing cost based on the classes retained.
Keep the whole scope—or shape it carefully
PRV permits renewal with a narrower list of goods and services. That can make sense where part of the registration no longer supports a live or planned product line. It can also reduce class fees. Yet a limitation cannot later be reversed through the same registration, so the analysis should look beyond the next invoice.
NordicIP maps the registered wording against current use, licensing, enforcement and product plans. A broad term that appears inactive may still support an important brand extension; a class that no longer has commercial relevance may be suitable for removal. The owner makes the decision with a clear picture of the protection affected.
Swedish national registration or EUTM?
Sweden is covered by an EU trademark, but many portfolios also contain Swedish national registrations. The two rights remain legally and administratively separate. Renewal of the Swedish registration is filed with PRV; renewal of the EUTM is filed with EUIPO.
Parallel rights can reflect an acquisition, an older national portfolio or a deliberate enforcement strategy. NordicIP reviews both records before recommending how the Swedish layer should be maintained. The analysis is based on the value of each right, not simply on the fact that their territories overlap.
Verify the payment and keep the evidence
PRV warns owners about misleading renewal invoices from organisations claiming a connection with the office. A genuine portfolio workflow begins with the official register and ends with official filing evidence. NordicIP uses the PRV registration number and live fee position, pays under the controlled instruction and reports the receipt.
The evidence matters after an acquisition, licence review or enforcement enquiry. Our completion report identifies the renewed classes and new term, giving the owner a record that can be matched directly to PRV rather than a third-party solicitation.
