A Danish trademark registration lasts for ten years from its filing date and can be renewed for further ten-year periods. The safe time to act is during the six months before expiry. If the regular date has already passed, Danish law provides a further six-month period, but the office applies a 20% surcharge and the final date needs immediate attention.
The Danish renewal deadline
The registration expires at the end of its current ten-year term. A renewal application and fee can be submitted from six months before that date. This is the ordinary renewal window and the best point for a portfolio review: there is time to verify the owner, examine the specification and resolve any recordal issue before payment.
After expiry, the registration enters a six-month late-renewal period. The renewal fee and the additional 20% must reach the Danish Patent and Trademark Office within that period. The grace period is a final legal window, not an extension that should be built into the normal docket. NordicIP records the statutory date and an earlier internal instruction date so the owner has a practical margin.
Official Danish renewal fees from 1 July 2026
DKPTO’s new trademark tariff applies to renewals with a due date on or after 1 July 2026. The class pattern is unusual: the second class has a smaller addition than the third and later classes.

What NordicIP checks before payment
A renewal is more than a transfer of funds. We compare the registration number, expiry date, current proprietor and registered classes against the official record. Where an assignment, company-name change or address update is relevant, we explain how it should be sequenced with the renewal.
- Identity of the right. We verify the Danish registration and its present status.
- Owner details. We check that the proprietor shown on the register matches the entity giving instructions.
- Class calculation. We calculate the office fee from the classes retained at renewal.
- Territorial value. A Danish national registration can extend to Greenland and the Faroe Islands, making the national right strategically important even where the owner also has an EU trademark.
- Renewal evidence. After filing, we retain the receipt and report the renewed status and next ten-year date.
Full or partial renewal
The owner can renew the whole registration or retain only selected goods and services. A limitation may reduce the class count and align the registration with the current business. It should be approached as a permanent scope decision: goods and services left out of the renewal cease to form part of the registration.
Class numbers alone do not answer that commercial question. A class can contain several distinct product or service areas. Where continued protection is valuable, keeping the relevant terms is usually more important than pursuing a small class-fee saving.
National Danish rights and WIPO registrations
This guide concerns Danish national registrations renewed through DKPTO. An international registration designating Denmark is renewed centrally through WIPO. An EU trademark covering Denmark is renewed through EUIPO. The portfolio can therefore contain three rights relevant to Denmark with three different renewal records.
