Norwegian trademark costs need one clarification at the outset. Patentstyret’s current official tariff starts at NOK 3,800 for one class, with NOK 1,000 for each additional class. NordicIP separately offers a published NOK 5,000 filing package for a straightforward application covering up to three classes. The three-class feature belongs to our package, not to the official fee schedule.
Official Norway application fees
From 1 July 2026, Patentstyret charges NOK 3,800 for the first class and NOK 1,000 per additional class. Those are the amounts paid to the office for examining the application. The fee is payable for the procedure and does not depend on whether the mark ultimately registers.

When the three-class package is commercially useful
A technology brand often crosses three genuine areas. Downloadable software sits in class 9; software development or SaaS commonly belongs in class 42; commercial marketplace or business services may require class 35. Under NordicIP’s published structure, that properly scoped three-class application has the same package price as one class.
The package should not encourage speculative classes. Every term still needs a business reason, and an overbroad list can create conflicts with earlier rights. We use the included capacity to build sensible coverage around the products and services the applicant uses or genuinely plans to offer.
Fast processing depends on a filing that is ready
Patentstyret currently says that a paid application using pre-approved product terms can receive a response in about three weeks. An application with unapproved wording, a payment issue or substantive obstacle can take longer. Classification work therefore affects both price and time.
NordicIP prepares the list using acceptable terminology where it fits the client’s business, without forcing a nuanced service into inaccurate wording. We also consider distinctiveness and earlier marks before filing. If Patentstyret raises an office action, the client receives a clear assessment, recommended response and agreed quote for the additional work.
Norway requires its own protection plan
Norway belongs to the European Economic Area but not to the EU trademark territory. An EUTM cannot replace a Norwegian registration. A common regional plan combines a Norwegian national filing with one EUTM for Denmark, Finland and Sweden plus the other EU member states.
NordicIP manages both components. The client supplies one commercial brief; we translate it into the correct national and EU applications, keep the specifications aligned where appropriate and report each office separately.
Budget beyond the filing receipt
The quoted application package secures professional preparation and filing, but a trademark is a continuing commercial asset. It can face an office action, enter the three-month post-registration opposition window and later require owner changes, licences or renewal. NordicIP reports each milestone and explains any optional or contested stage before cost is incurred.
For a multi-country launch, we can quote Norway alongside the relevant EUTM or national filings. The comparison shows the class assumptions in each territory, so the business can approve one regional budget without confusing NordicIP’s Norway package with the separate official tariffs.

Send a product list, website, pitch deck or existing specification. We identify the likely Nice classes and explain where an item could fall into more than one category depending on how it is supplied. A mobile application, for example, may involve downloadable software, hosted software and services delivered through the platform.
